Today at school we reviewed our letter for this week, letter Hh. We also reviewed all the other letters that we've already learned about. We talked again about different words that start with Hh and then we did our "house" project. We glued things in our house that began with letter Hh.
We read the book "Rainbow Fish" which talks about friendship and sharing. We talked about friends, what good friends do for each other, and the importance of sharing.
We made our own Rainbow fish
We read the book "Do You Want To Be My Friend" about a mouse who is looking for a friend.
We did a car poem about our number this week, which was number 7:
Seven little race cars speeding round the track, one lost a wheel and only six came back.
Six little race cars speeding round the track, one hit a rail and only five came back.
Five little race cars speeding round the track, one turned over and only four came back.
Four little race cars speeding round the track, one spun out and only three came back.
Three little race cars speeding round the track, one over heated and only two came back.
Two little race cars speeding round the track, one ran out of gas and only one came back.
One little race car speeding round the track, he was the winner of the race and he came back!
Our character count this week was about respect. We read the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We talked about respect for others property and feelings.
While we waited for our Mom's to come, we colored a picture from our Goldilocks and the Three Bear story.

11/8: Friendship, Sharing, Helping
Today we learned about letter Hh. We talked about the sound letter Hh makes and what starts with Hh.
We also learned about the number 7. We read the book "Seven Blind Mice." It's about seven mice that discover a big "something" that turns out to be an elephant.
We read the story of the "Little Red Hen." In our story nobody wanted to help the little red hen make her bread. We discussed what friends are and how to be a good friend. We also talked about sharing and helping.
After our story we made bread. Everyone helped to measure the ingredients and stir - we didn't want to be like the animals in our story. We made the bread heart shaped since "heart" started with our letter Hh.
We also did a shape and color activity. We practiced writing letter Hh on special gel boards. We ended our day with play dough while we waited for our moms.

11/3: Circus Days
Free play centers: File folder games and puppets
Opening: The usual, sang "Days of the Week", reviewed "G" words, "This Circus Clown" fingerplay, talked about what we see at the circus (animals, acrobats, clowns)
The kids walked the tightrope (a line of tape on the floor) over to the table.
Lesson: Clown tracing worksheet, face painting and clown hats, clown bean bag toss, clown paper bag puppet, "G" coloring page.Traced 6 circle balloons and the clown.
After they each colored their hat and got their face painted, they sat on the floor and counted with me as I glued 6 fuzzy balls on each hat.
Then we went outside for the bean bag toss. They sat quietly on the line (mostly). Whoever was sitting quietly got to have a turn, 2 at a time. They each got 2 turns.
Get it in the clown's mouth!
We went back inside and the kids painted their clown puppets.
When they got done with that they could paint their "G" coloring page and then walk the tightrope to the bathroom to wash their hands for snack.
Snack: Popcorn with the popcorn popper! Oh, they LOVED this! We did a little bit of science as I explained how the popcorn starts out as seeds, and then the popper blows really hot air and they explode into popcorn! You should have seen the excitement as it started coming out!We talked about how when you visit the circus you get to eat popcorn!
Character counts: We read "The Berenstain Bears and the Golden Rule". Mostly I summarized it. :) Then I had "Golden Candy" (individual Rolo's) and gave one to each child as they told me what the Golden Rule is. Then I asked them each a question (i.e. Do you like it when your brother hits you? So will you hit him? and Do you like it when your sister shares treats with you? So will you share your treats with her?). When they answered they got another Golden Candy.Closing: The "G"o "G"ame. They could act like crazies until I rang the bell...
then they had to FREEZE and count to 6. Then they could act like crazies again until I rang the bell and they had to FREEZE and count to 6. Over and over and over and over. It was hilarious.
Then they got to color a "G is for Giraffe" page until they were picked up.
We learned all about letter "G" and number 6 this week. We had so much fun visiting the circus today and becoming clowns! These kids are so silly!

(When they were sitting quietly, I tapped them with my "G" wand and they got to pick an object that starts with the "G" sound and put it in the bag.)
Zoo escape! Follow the footprints to find the missing animals!
Then we put them in the class zoo and talked about who lives and works at the zoo.
We made the sounds of each animal.
Lesson: How Many at the Zoo? worksheet, zoo charades, Feed the Monkeys, Lion masksThe kids picked an animal out of the bag and acted like it. The other kids guessed what animal they were.
Josh is being a lion!
Andrew being a penguin.
Feeding the monkeys bananas, 1-6
Paper plate lion masks.
Snack: Teddy Grahams (bears). We played "Don't Eat Pete!" where one kid goes into the kitchen while the rest of us pick a number (1-6). When they eat the bear off that number we say "Don't Eat Pete!". The kids loved this!
Character counts: We talked about Good Manner keys and when we use them. They got to put each key on their keychain when we talked about it.Closing: Dice game (roll the dice, take off that number and try to guess which animal is underneath!)
and then sang:
"I went to the zoo today, zoo today, zoo today.
I went to the zoo today, and I saw a __________."
It was a fun day! Thanks for visiting our zoo!
