We learned about Mail Carriers (mail and letters), Bankers (money), letter Uu, and number 20. We read the stories, "Corduroy writes a letter" and "Just a Piggy Bank." We sorted letters and numbers into different mailboxes and played a community helper game. I gave the kids clues and they picked the picture of the community helper I was talking about.
We learned about Mail Carriers and what they do. We also talked about mail, letters, stamps, and the post office. Each child was assigned a shape and we made mail bags. After our mail bags were finished, we wrote letters to all our school friends. We put our letters into our little class mailbox and then at the end of the day we took turns delivering the letters.
Everyone got to go home with a bag full of mail from all their friends
We talked about money, what it is used for, and we examined all the coins (quarter, dime, nickel, penny). We looked at the words, pictures, and people on all the coins and talked about each ones characteristics. We did a coin sort and practiced our graphing with a "head and tails" game with quarters. We made our piggy banks and got to put a penny in it when we were finished.
We discussed letter Uu and number 20. We talked about all the words that start with Uu and how to write letter Uu. We did a Uu sort and an umbrella art project. We also worked on our motor skills by throwing bean bags into an umbrella. We read the book, "Utah" and everyone got to take a Utah book home.
